THE National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is a key institution for dealing with corruption in the public sector.

In this respect, it is imperative that all other key institutions like the State Bank, FBR, FIA, intelligence agencies, commercial banks and all other institutions should cooperate with it to bring to justice all corrupt practices and acts of omission and commission.

If citizens want to become whistle-blowers regarding corrupt practices, their testimony should be entertained under oath.

We must follow our founding fathers’ ideals in this respect. The Quaid was reluctant to spend even a rupee from the national kitty on himself or his immediate family. In one of the important meetings, the Quaid directed his ADC that no refreshments were to be served to participants, thus, implying no burden on the exchequer!

The national accountability law should be a visionary one, not targeting any specific group or class of interests or citizenry; all citizens should be within its ambit.

NAB’s fundamental job should be to stamp out corruption and recover ill-gotten moneys. A vibrant performance by NAB and FBR in this respect will lead to a more transparent, prosperous and law-abiding country.
