ISLAMABAD, Sept 13: The representative steering committee of the National Leaders Conference has described the Sept 9 strike as successful and as a manifestation of public reaction.

The observation came at a meeting held at the residence of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal president Qazi Hussain Ahmad on Tuesday and was attended by Liaquat Baloch, Imran Khan, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Lt-Gen (retd) Hamid Gul.

Mr Baloch told a briefing later the steering committee was of the view that the strike was successful which showed that people wanted to get rid of the Musharraf-led government and his system.

The steering committee decided that a ‘black day’ would be observed in the country on the occasion of President Pervez Musharraf’s address to the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.

The committee congratulated those arrested on the eve of the strike and called upon the government to set them free forthwith.—Online
