LAHORE, Sept 13: Chief Minister’s Adviser on Social Welfare Saba Sadiq has said she has waken up from deep slumber after four years to realize that the incumbent government is doing a great job for women rights.

Ms Sadiq, who has recently joined the ruling PML, was speaking at a news conference at the Punjab Social Welfare Department’s directorate-general offices on Tuesday.

She said the government had done a great job in restoring the rights of women, given them representation in parliament and launched massive projects in the social sectors. The Musharraf-led government, she said, was far better than the democratic system as it launched welfare projects for the general public, including women and children.

Ms Sadiq further heaped praise on the government which, she said, was making all-out efforts for upgradation of the social status of women and bring them in the mainstream of development. She said the government had also respected its workers and given them their due share in the set-up.

She also briefed the reporters on the working and different projects of the social welfare department. She said around 2.3 million people had received assistance from the social welfare department during the last financial year alone.

She said the department’s budget had been enhanced manifold compared to the amount allocated during the Nawaz Sharif government.

Answering a question, she said Sonia Naz would be meted out justice.
