GILGIT, Sept 11: On the second day of a search operation launched on Saturday morning in Barmas, security forces arrested four suspects, sources said. The operation is aimed at tracking down terrorists involved in an incident of firing that killed two persons and sparked panic and fear in the city on Thursday.

The sources said police detained the two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of PPP leader Ramzan Ali Danish on Thursday but refused to disclose their names.

They said relatives of the slain PPP leader had nominated 12 people in the FIR and one of them was arrested on Friday. Security forces also entered Kashroot locality and seized a 7mm rifle, they added.

The sources said that on Saturday security forces had seized a number of weapons during a search operation. Rangers, the Frontier Constabulary and police continued siege of many areas on Sunday. Passengers and commuters were put through body search at entry and exit points while law enforcers also increased patrolling throughout the city.

The city has been in the grip of tension due to killing of five people, including two FC men, in separate attacks over the week.

HERITAGE OFFICE TORCHED: Unidentified men set on fire the main office of Ganish Heritage in central Hunza. The fire gutted documents and record pertaining to historic monuments.

Sources said police lodged FIR against unidentified saboteurs and initiated investigations.

They said no body had been arrested so far.
