PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Sanaullah Abbasi has directed the police high-ups to ensure effective supervision of trade routes and strict measures to enforce the anti-smuggling ordinance in letter and spirit.

He issued these directives to all regional police officers in a videoconference here on Tuesday.

The police officers briefed the IGP about crackdown on the violators of anti-smuggling ordinance.

They said the police had seized over Rs550 million smuggled goods in the province that included non-custom paid vehicles, foreign cloths, automobile spare parts, mobile phones, electric appliance and other valuable items.

The police chief directed RPOs to act against smugglers using unfrequented trade routes.

He also ordered the police to adopt stringent anti-smuggling measures on border crossing points and come down hard on the aides and facilitators of smugglers.

Meanwhile, a seven-member delegation of transporters from Khyber tribal district called on the police chief in his office here and informed him about their problems.

Dr Sanaullah told them that the police would ensure a peaceful business environment for transporters.

He urged transporters to help the law-enforcement agencies check smuggling.
