The facility, launched in collaboration with National Bank of Pakistan, will initially be available to those taxpayers of the LTU who maintain their accounts with the NBP’s main branch in Lahore, or who intend to file nil sales tax returns.

The facility will shortly be extended to other branches of the bank.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, CBR director-general Hussain Ahmad Sherazi said the CBR planned to promote the use of IT in the tax offices for scientifically process information and data, enhance administrative efficiency and increase information sharing.

He said the working of the domestic taxes in LTU was based on tailor made and integrated income tax and sales tax software, called tax management system and sales tax information system, respectively.

He said a website on internet had already been established in the LTU, Lahore, for communication within the organization and it was planned to eliminate up to 95 per cent inter-office paper communication by February next year.

He said communication through electronic mailing for taxpayers would soon be introduced and the LTU clients would also be provided the facility of electronic filing of their income tax returns.
