CHAGAI: Security agencies have started investigating two suspects, found near the nuclear test site area, after they were handed over to them by the local residents in Dalbandin.

According to officials, the two suspects were held after being seen hanging about in Chehattar, some 50 kilometres away from Dalbandin located on the RCD highway near the Raaskoh mountains, where the nuclear tests were conducted in the country on May 28, 1998.

The duo stayed at Chehattar for three days, begging food from local people and spent their nights in deserted places, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner of Chagai Agha Sher Zaman confirmed their detention and said they were being interrogated by authorities concerned. However, he did not disclose their identities and further details.

A security official told Dawn that initial inquiries indicated that they belonged to Rajanpur in Punjab and Ghotki in Sindh. He said the authorities were trying to find out their possible aims and mission if they had any.
