FAISALABAD: The Batala Colony police have registered a case against the medical superintendent of the Government General Hospital, Haseeb Shaheed Colony, and three other doctors on charges of manhandling a lady doctor and stealing her gold bangles.

The case been registered on the direction of the additional district and sessions judge in response to an application submitted by Dr Ayesha Qaiser, a dental surgeon at the hospital.

Prior to approaching court, the lady doctor had submitted application to police for registration of the case, but to no avail although she provided her medico-legal certificate and the footages of the hospital cameras as well. She said an inquiry was under way as the MS in connivance with a lady doctor had used a patient to threaten her.

She said the lady doctor later threatened her asking how could she approach the EDO (Health) and the deputy commissioner with an application of harassment at workplace.

She said the MS also reached the spot and used abusive language and threatened her and the hospital cameras recorded the entire incident. She said the MS allegedly rouged her up, snatched her mobile phone, camera and two gold bangles. The MS returned to his office where, she said, she went to seek her belongings but the staff shoved her out. She said police reached the spot and helped her get back the camera.

Medical Teachers Association Secretary Khurram Sohail Raja has asked the Punjab government to suspend the MS from service to ensure justice.

He said the CCTV footages of the hospital cameras had also proved that the MS had manhandled the lady doctor and snatched her camera forcibly.

Pakistan Medical Association, Faisalabad chapter secretary general Dr Muhammad Irfan also condemned the incident. He said more than three inquiries had been conducted on this issue and not a single decision had been given so far. He said the trend of harassment at workplace must be eliminated.

Police registered a case against the MS, Dr Zaib, Dr Naeem and Dr Khalil under sections 34,337-A(I), 337(L),337F(I),354,379,427 and 509 of the PPC with no arrest.
