Federal education minister Shafqat Mehmood has announced that those students being promoted on the basis of their ninth and 11th grade results will be given a three per cent increase.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he said: "We went back and saw all the data, and we saw that 10th and 12th grades results are better than ninth and 11th grade results. Therefore, the students will be given a three per cent increase when being promoted."

He added that special exams will be held for those that wish to take them. "These will be held in September/November depending on when the situation improves."
