ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: Eight more deaths from Covid-19 in Rawalpindi district and two in Islamabad on Monday took the tally in the two cities to 55 and six, respectively.

The confirmed cases also jumped to 679 in Islamabad in the last two days, sources told Dawn.

According to the officials of the capital administration, one of the Covid-19 patients reportedly died on Sunday and another on Monday.

District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia confirmed to Dawn that a woman from Golra was brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on May 7 where she died on Sunday. Her body was later shifted as per protocol to Golra and buried there.

Another patient died at Pims, spokesman for the hospital Dr Wasim Khawja told Dawn.

He said the patient was 81-year-old and a resident of CDA Officers Colony G-7/2 and was brought to the hospital on April 26.

Replying to a question, he said two more medical staff of the hospital had contracted the virus and were kept at a private ward.

The capital administration said during the last two days 70 more confirmed cases and 3,810 suspected cases were reported in Islamabad. The virus spread to F-17, E-16 and Kurri.

In Rawalpindi, a 63-year-old resident of Pirwadhai was brought to a hospital on Sunday where he died on Monday.

Meanwhile, the results of 656 suspected patients are still awaited.

Confirmed cases in the district have increased to 1,239 while 257 patients have recovered.

On the other hand, two more officials of Rescue 1122 were hospitalised after they were tested positive with the virus.

A spokesman for Rescue 1122 said the two officials had been shifted to the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology.
