TOBA TEK SINGH: Bodies of nine members of family who had drowned in the Mailsi Link Canal on Saturday were recovered on Sunday, 24 hours after the incident on Abdul Hakim-Mian Channu Road near Brahamanwala Bridge.

Allah Ditta, an official of the Talumba Police Station, said the family was on way from Sheikhupura to Mian Channu’s Fazal Colony in a van when it hit a motorcycle on Brahamanwala Bridge of the canal. As a result, the van as well as the motorcyclist fell into canal. All the nine people travelling in the van and the motorcyclist drowned.

Rescue 1122 and private divers recovered the nine bodies after the water flow into the canal was stopped. The body of the unidentified motorcyclist was still missing when this report was filed. Nine of the deceased were residents of Chobara, Layyah. They were identified as Ali Imran, Dua Fatima, Sana Ijaz, Saba Imran, Shabnam Ijaz, Ayesha Ijaz, Gulzar Ahmad, Safdar Umer and Ijaz Umer.
