Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid says the government wanted to resume passenger train service from May 10 but it was unable to get the support of all four provinces about doing so.
As a "democrat Prime Minister" Imran Khan has issued directions to consider the matter for another 2-3 days, Rashid said in a video message.
He added that he hopes to restart the train service before Eidul Fitr while taking all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
