UMERKOT: More than two dozen armed men attacked the house of journalist A.B. Arisar near Jewan Colony on Wednesday and subjected his family members to severe torture.

The Dawn correspondent’s family members told reporters that 15 men armed with axes, sticks and hammers barged into the house after breaking open locks, subjected them to torture and dragged them out to occupy the premises.

The correspondent informed police in time but SHO Khalil Kunbhar reached the spot two hours after the incident and instead of arresting the attackers pressurised the victims to have the matter resolved through jirga.

He said the police returned axes and hammers to the culprits and let them sneak away. The attackers were disciples of a pir who wanted to occupy his house, he said.
