LAHORE: Federal Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination (IPC) Dr Fehmida Mirza on Monday distributed cheques among the members of Pakistan’s weightlifting and tennis teams for winning medals in the 2019 South Asian Games held in Nepal.

The cheques were given to the medallists during a ceremony held in Islamabad.

Pakistan’s weightlifting team won five gold, two silver and one bronze medal at the regional sports gala. Among them Talha Talib, Haider Ali, Usman Amjad Rathore, Dastgir Butt and Mohammad Nooh Dastgir Butt won gold, Abu Sufyan and Rabbia Razzaq earned silver while Saima Shahzad clinched bronze medal.

In tennis, Aisam-ul-Haq, Aqeel Khan, Muzammil Murtaza and Mohammad Abid bagged silver medal in the team event. Sara Mansoor, Ushna Sohail, Mahin Aftaz and Sarah Mehboob also won bronze medals in women’s category.

Aisam and Ushna, and Abid and Sara also claimed bronze in the mixed doubles contest.

According to the approved policy, every gold medallist received Rs1 million and silver medallist Rs500,000 while the bronze medal winners earned Rs250,000 each.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Fehmida congratulated the medal winners for giving impressive performance at the South Asian Games.
