KOHAT: The police have arrested nine proclaimed offenders and four Afghan refugees among 76 suspects during the strike and strategic operations.

Weapons and drugs, including four Kalashnikovs, four shotguns, two rifles, 10 pistols, five kilogrammes of hashish, hundreds of cartridges and dozens of magazines, were also recovered.

Meanwhile, district police officer Mansoor Aman has deployed contingents of commandos equipped with communication gadgets for the safety of the life and property of the people during Ramazan.

Police patrolling has also been increased to curb any untoward incident during the fasting month.

Also, the deputy commissioner extended the ban on illegal fruit and vegetable markets and auctions for two more months on Tuesday.

Earlier, such a ban was imposed under section 144 on Feb 28, 2020. The violators would be dealt with under section 188 and could face fines and imprisonments.

CONTRACTOR ARRESTED: The city police have arrested a contractor and two tractor drivers for stealing bricks from the auctioned debris of government girls model school, and dumping them at the plot of an influential person.

Fazal Naeem, the PRO to the district police officer, told Dawn that the school watchman had told them that contractor, Abdul Raziq, along with two tractor drivers came to the under-construction school and started loading bricks onto the tractor-trolleys.

The contractor told the watchman upon inquiry that he had been allowed by the education department to collect the bricks.

The police official said the education department was contacted, but the officials denied having given any such order. He said the contactor also brawled with the watchman. On the watchman’s complaint, the police registered case against the contractor, who had been arrested along with the drivers.
