BEIJING, Sept 3: World number five Retief Goosen held on to his one-shot lead over US Open champion Michael Campbell on Saturday after an error-strewn third round at the Volkswagen Masters-China.
Goosen, who has led after every round of the $300,000 tournament, carded a mere 71 on the par-72 Jinghua Golf Club course but Campbell bogeys on 15 and 17 returned him to the top of the leaderboard at 14 under par.
Campbell twice edged ahead of the double Major-winner but was left to curse the dropped shots which also left him with a 71, 13 under for the tournament.
Australians David Bransdon and Adam Blyth were three shots off the lead for a share of third while compatriot Gary Simpson was 10-under for fifth in the Asian Tour event. China’s Zhang Lian Wei shared sixth with American Ron Won.

CRANS-SUR-SIERRE (Switzerland): Spain’s Sergio Garcia made a strong bid for his first European Masters title when he broke five shots clear of the field in Friday’s second round.
Garcia, world number six and joint-favourite for the honours at the Alpine course where he has a home, repeated his feat of last year to shoot a six-under-par 65 after an opening 66 to move to 11-under-par 131.
That gave him a hefty clubhouse lead over Swede Pierre Fulke (67) and Britain’s Paul Broadhurst (69).

NORTON (Massachusetts): World number one Tiger Woods carried over his sizzling form to the Deutsche Bank Championship on Friday carding a flawless six-under 65 to grab a one shot first round lead at the $5.5 million event.
Playing the back nine first at the Tournament Players Club of Boston, Woods got his round off to a modest start with two birdies through his first 11 holes.
He then surged to the top of the leaderboard picking up shots on three, four, six and seven.
Sitting one shot back of Woods at five-under 66 are compatriots Briny Baird, Billy Andrade and Steve Lowery and Carlos Franco of Paraguay, who had an up and down start to his tournament mixing eight birdies with three bogeys.
