PESHAWAR, Sept 3: Residents of Kachi Mohalla in Hashtnagri area of walled-city on Saturday staged a protest rally against the killing of a minor boy and demanded the arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, the city police chief has suspended the station house officer (SHO) of the police station Riaz Khan on charges of failing to stop crimes in his jurisdiction.

A five-year-old Junaid Ali, son of Shabbir Ali, was killed and Rahat, Shahid, Noroz and a care-taker of Imambargah Sayed Chan Pir Shah were injured when Badshah Ji group allegedly opened fire in Hussania street.

It was not an act of sectarian related violence, but it was a clash between two groups known for illegal activities in the area, said police officials investigating the case.

The Hashtnagri police on Friday evening registered a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against seven persons of Badshah Ji group. However, the police have not yet arrested any person nominated in the FIR.

Saturday’s rally started from Hussainia street and after marching through various city roads stopped in front of Hashtnagri police station. The protesters chanted slogans against the police and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the incident.
