LANDI KOTAL , Sept 3: Power supply to Loe Shalman remained suspended for the fifth day on Saturday, as the Wapda authorities in Landi Kotal failed to repair the damaged lines.

The power suspension was caused due to cutting of a main transmission line near Bajauri Korona in Dormakhel area.

The Wapda official in Landi Kotal said the wire was very old and needed repair and expressed their inability to repair the damaged line due to paucity of funds needed for the purpose.

The power disruption also affected the Loe Shalman telephone exchange as most of the 250 telephone lines were out of order.

The areas, hit most by the power failure, included Wazir Korona, Shanelee, Samsai and Ugda. The area residents complained of experiencing hardships in hot weather.

Some residents were also facing water shortage as the power breakdown left their water pumping stations ineffective.

ROAD REPAIR: The National Highway Authority, in collaboration with political administration, started repair of one-kilometre long road at the Pakistan-Afghan border of Torkham.

The road needed repairs for a long time but the work was hampered by roadside encroachments by the Khugakhel tribesmen.

The Khugakhel were resisting the widening of the road and were demanding compensation for removal of their shops and cabins.
