KARACHI, Sept 2: Shah Nawaz second half strike helped PWD force a 1-1 draw with Karachi Port Trust (KPT) in the Premier League at CDGK Stadium on Friday. KPT shocked PWD with an early goal when Asim Faiz slotted home with the game just five minutes old.

KPT could have gone 2-0 ahead late in the second half but Ghulam Farooq slammed the ball straight to PWD goalkeeper Sajid instead of dodging the custodian having a good opening.

Abdul Rauf of KPT sent the ball over the bar in the 50th minute, Shah Nawaz was on target for PWD shooting the ball low into the right corner of the cage following a perfect pass by Mohammad Jan.

KPT were pressing for another goal but Sajidullah’s cross could not produce results as Abdul Rauf header missed the target in the 60th minute.

Playmaker Abdul Khaliq came off the bench as usual in the second half in the 65th minute but the second goal remained elusive.

PWD were on attack but Farooq’s effort was too weak to reach the target as KPT goalkeeper Zulfiqar Ali easily handled it in the 67th minute. KPT’s Ghulam Farooq missed the target heading wide three minutes later.

PWD came close to scoring their second only to see Naveed trying through a weak shot that was saved by Zulfiqar without effort, although the striker might have scored with a lob over the beaten custodian in the 72nd minute.

Asim’s powerful 30-metre drive failed to trouble Sajid under the bar ten minutes before time.

Saturday’s fixture:

HBL v NBP at Aga Khan Gymkhana.
