Schools being used as guest-houses

Published January 18, 2002

HANGU, Jan 17: Shortage of teaching staff and equipment in government-run educational institutions in Hangu district has put the future of students here at stake as the government and local authorities have failed to solve the problems confronting the young generation.

Many school buildings in different parts of the district have been occupied by local influential people, who utilize these educational institutions as personal guest-houses, courtesy of the indifference of education department officials concerned.

A huge amount from the public exchequer has been wasted on these buildings, but the authorities have failed to make the facilities operational. Many other schools are functioning without heads for a long time now.

Besides lack of equipment, many schools, including the only government girls higher secondary school, are facing shortage of teaching staff.

The social circles, including students and their parents, have expressed concern over lack of facilities in these educational institutions and called upon the high-ups to do the needful.
