NAWABSHAH, Aug 30: Former district nazim and a leader of the People’s Party-backed Awam Dost Panel, Faryal Talpur, has called upon the chief election commissioner and the district returning officer, Nawabshah, to take notice of an attempt to kidnap ADP councillor candidate from the court premises by police officials.

She was accompanied by MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio, MPA Tariq Masood Arain, President People’s Lawyer Forum, Ziaul Hassan Lanjhar, Rashid Chandio, District Information Secretary PPP, Syed Bagh Ali Shah, Abdul Fateh Jamali and others were also present on the occasion.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, Ms Talpur said that ADP councillor candidate Basheer Bhatti was inside the sessions court for recounting. A contingent of the A-Section police went inside the court premises to kidnap him.

Meanwhile, Basheer Bhatti gave her a call and when she reached inside the court, SHO A-Section police Ghulam Nabi Kharal was there to kidnap him, she said.

She further said that she helped the candidate to come out. She alleged that ADP nazims and councillors were being continuously threatened by rivals and police to change their loyalties and their houses were being raided.

She further said that the ADP had won majority of seats in Nawabshah district and would form the district and taluka governments.

She said that the government was committing rigging and more than 54 FIRs were lodged against the ADP candidates and their relatives in different police stations before elections just to pressurize and threaten them to change their loyalties but they refused. She said that the rigging of government has exposed the so-called enlightened moderation and democracy of president General Musharraf.

She further alleged that ministers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, MQM, including Farooq Sattar, continued election campaign till election night and activists of MQM were brought from Karachi and Hyderabad on election day to commit rigging, who destroyed the peaceful election atmosphere and committed illegalities on the polling day.

She said that her rivals were sure that ADP was in majority and would form government and for this reason they were threatening, victimising and pressurizing ADP members.

She demanded of the chief election commissioner and DRO Nawabshah to take notice of the court incident and take action against the police.

She was accompanied by MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio, MPA Tariq Masood Arain, President People’s Lawyer Forum, Ziaul Hassan Lanjhar, Rashid Chandio, District Information Secretary PPP, Syed Bagh Ali Shah, Abdul Fateh Jamali and others were also present on the occasion.
