LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to unveil the formation of its provincial and city cricket association, which are due under the new constitution of the board promulgated on Aug 19.

The PCB has to announce the office-bearers of the six provincial and 90 city cricket associations to put the domestic system back on the track.

Currently, no cricket association is working since the implementation of the new constitution as the last domestic season was directly hosted by the PCB.

A considerable delay has been made in making the new bodies in place of the defunct district cricket associations, which were 102 and controlled by the 16 regional bodies. But the PCB under the clear instructions of its patron Prime Minister Imran Khan cut short the 16 regions to just six provincial bodies under the nomenclature of Sindh, Central Punjab, Southern Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern.

But after passing of almost of eight months, it failed to bring back the domestic structure. But due to coronavirus pandemic all cricketing activities are suspended, the PCB has enough time to announce the formation of six provincial bodies and the 90 city cricket associations. Besides the regional and district cricket associations, the PCB has also disaffiliated departmental teams, rendering thousands of cricketers jobless.

A PCB official said that lot of work had been done in forming the new city and provincial bodies and most probably it will start functioning from the upcoming month under a phase wise programme.
