PESHAWAR, Aug 29: Naib Ameer of the Jamat-i-Islami (JI) and MNA Shabir Ahmad Khan has advised Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani against jeopardizing the unity of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal by extending support to the JUI-F candidate for the post of the city district nazim.

He said that despite irresponsible and provocative attitude of the JUI-F leaders, the Jamaat would try to keep the MMA intact.

In a statement issued here on Monday, he said Mr Durrani had not been elected as chief minister only through the vote of the JUI-F lawmakers in the provincial assembly. He was the nominee of the six-party alliance.

Differences cropped up between the JUI-F and JI after Chief Minister Akram Durrani invited independent councillors to the Frontier House to muster their support in favour of Haji Ghulam Ali, the JUI-F candidate for the slot of Nazim city district.

The statement said the JUI-F had made alliance with Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao who had been engineering conspiracies to break the MMA.
