HARIPUR: The police on Friday recovered 35 passengers, including women and children, from a truck here.

The passengers were sent to their homes in Mansehra while the truck driver was arrested, the police said, adding on information of villagers the Beer police found a truck standing near Soha village on the Chappar Road. On search, the police recovered 12 women, 13 children and 10 men huddled under tarpaulin cover.

The passengers told the police that they were coming from Lahore to their Lassan Nawab Sahib village in Mansehra district.

Police said the driver tricked the Punjab and Haripur police on the border and managed to drive the families, having gone to Lahore to attend wedding of a relative, to Soha village, about 40 kilometres from their last destination.

The police said a case was registered against the driver identified as Jehanzeb.
