US places Pakistan on high-priority list for Covid-19 assistance

WASHINGTON: The United States has placed Pakistan among the high-priority countries that will receive US assistance for curbing the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, a senior American official said.
Briefing journalists in Washington on Thursday afternoon on the US response to this pandemic, Bonnie Glick, deputy administrator of the US Agency for International Development said Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Burma and Uzbekistan were also among these high-priority states. The United States has set up a $274 million fund to help the international community in combating the outbreak of this deadly disease.

Don't hold your breath on this news. Right now the US is short of supplies, equipment and hospital space. They need to get their own house in order before the can offer real help. Glaring example of poor leadership in ignoring warnings from the scientists and medical experts.

To keep the nations stay hushed and faithful, the USA will give 274 million dollars to help a population of approx 875 million. That makes it around 33 cent per head. Even iron brother China gives only when they can extract more for themselves. Difference is USA products are of much better quality and reliable, compared to China's inferior unreliable cheap products

This is the fact. Believe it or not. A country who can stand up to it's prestige gets more respect and priority. Do we stand anywhere close. High priority was given to Italy, Spain and other countries before any shipment was made to Pakistan. We also need funds. China has been silent in this regard, though they are spending heavily on publicity and social media worldwide to clear their image as a rough nation for the pandemic.

It’s just token of gesture, USA spending 2.2 Trillion on 40 chore population of USA ; pledging, 274 millions to to list of countries - not sure how much is for Pakistan or any other country in that pool; just a guess somewhere 2 to 20 millions for Pakistan.
I don’t mean to criticize USA & appreciate the gesture; but even if it’s 20 millions for Pakistan; do we need to discuss humanitarian aid of 20 millions to a country for this level of challenge.

@khan jeff, yesterday, 4 european countries rejected and returned these Chinese medical equipments for being substandard with only 30% accuracy. So better be careful of what aid we get from China. No reason to TomTom their "support".its all business. 1500 new medical equipment manufacturing units, sprang up within a month in China, with financial support from the government to cash in on the surge if demand for these items. Remember again it's all big business and only those who pay the best price gets genuine stuff. Rest all fake or substandard. Pakistan wants it free.
