PESHAWAR: Four people died and another one was hospitalised after consuming spirit in Imamia Colony area of city on Thursday, police said.

A police spokesperson said that five people consumed spirit at a private gathering at the residence of one Aslam on Wednesday night. He said that after consuming spirit their condition deteriorated and they were taken to hospital where two of them identified as Shaukat and Shahzad died. Later, Aslam and Riaz also died on Thursday.

He said that another victim, Malik Yousaf, was being treated at the hospital. He said that police had recovered evidence, including empty bottle of spirit, from the scene.
