MORATUWA (Sri Lanka), Aug 28: Bangladesh opened their cricket tour of Sri Lanka on a disastrous note as they crashed to a 10-wicket defeat in a warm-up match here on Sunday.

Openers Avishka Gunawardene and Upul Tharanga cracked unbeaten centuries as a Sri Lanka Cricket XI scored 239 without loss after restricting Bangladesh to a modest 235-8 in a 50-over match.

Gunawardene scored a 103-ball 111 with 16 fours, while Tharanga made 104 off 117 balls with nine fours and four sixes in the tourists’ only practice game before the one-day series.

Rajin Saleh top-scored for Bangladesh with 53. Mohammad Ashraful (37), Javed Omar (32) and skipper Habibul Bashar (31) were the other notable contributors.

Bangladesh will play three One-day Internationals and two Tests against Sri Lanka. The first one-dayer begins at Colombo on Wednesday, followed by day-night games on Sept 2 and 4.

The opening Test starts on Sept 12 and the second is on September 20.
