HYDERABAD, Aug 28: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture has expressed concern over non-publication of the technical committee’s report on water. At a meeting held here on Sunday, the chamber called upon the prime minister to release the report.

Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah presided over the meeting. Mr Shah regretted that the copy of the report had not even been provided to the Sindh chief minister.

He expressed fear that the report might contain some elements against Sindh.

The meeting was informed that according to some reports, Mr A.N.G. Abbasi had recommended another dam instead of Kalabagh and there would be no canal taken out from it.

The chamber demanded that Kalabagh dam should be abondoned completely.

DG: The director-general of the Sindh health services, Dr Hadi Jatoi, has said that 100,000 lady health workers were visiting every nook and corner of the country to make people aware of diseases like polio and tetanus.

He was speaking at a meeting of district coordinators and field programme officers here on Sunday.

He said that 17,380 lady health workers were already performing their duties under the national programme in Sindh and about 3,845 workers would be recruited in the province.

He said the health department possessed all necessary wherewithal including funds, manpower and vehicles but they had been misused in the past.

Mr Jatoi gave a period of three months to district coordinators and field programme officers to improve their performance, otherwise strict action would be taken against them.
