Over the years, girls have proven their skills and abilities in almost all the fields, whether in career or in leisure activities; they have excelled wherever they stepped in. But unfortunately, there are still some girls who show reluctance in taking STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects due to reasons like no proper knowledge, lack of encouragement and guidance.

And to help these girls, I found a website www.scigirlsconnect.org which does a great job in encouraging young girls pursuing STEM subjects.

SciGirls is an Emmy award-winning PBS kids’ television show, website, and educational support programme which engages girls in science, technology, engineering and math learning careers. This interactive website is full of videos and hands-on various activities to work together for a powerful goal that is, to inspire, enable and maximise stem learning and participation of girls towards future stem careers.

You can navigate the site by going through ‘Resources’ section given at the top with a drop-down menu, ‘Earth and Space, Engineering and design, Health, Life and Environment, Physical science, Technology and Role-model profiles with each having related activities and videos.

You can further dig deeper into the site by going through ‘Featured videos, and ‘Featured activities’; the former contains videos about girls using code to turn music into a visual display; creating computer animations, while in ‘featured activities’, you can learn and complete a task/activity in a given time, for instance, design a planter out of recycled material, improve your water bottle in an innovative way, determine the best insulation to keep the ice-cubes from melting and many more. These activities and videos keep updating so you will always find new things to try and learn from.

Overall, Scigirlsconnect spreads positive message and motivates girls across the world to be part of the various fields in STEM by participating in STEM activities and observing how other girls of their age are excelling in such fields.

So girls, what are you waiting for, learn or be part of the STEM at www.scigirlsconnect.org
