KOHAT: Vehicle and motorcycle lifting cases could not be controlled in the city and other parts of the district despite busting of two major gangs by the police.

Auto thieves took away a car from near the technical college on Rawalpindi Road the other day, and the owner got registered a case in the Mohammad Riaz Shaheed police station.

The theft of motorcycles is also continuing unabated allegedly by a five-member gang. The gangsters were arrested, but later released on bail.

A large number of motorcycles had been recovered from the gang members who shifted the bikes to Orakzai.

PRO to the district police officer Mansoor Aman said the police had arrested Fazal Munir and Mohammad Yasir belonging to the city, and recovered two motorcycles from them. One was lifted the other day from Rawalpindi Road, he added.

He advised the people not to leave their motorcycles unlocked and park them at a safe place.

80 ARRESTED: The police on Tuesday arrested 80 persons, including four Afghan refugees, for violating section 144 enforced in the district to ensure smooth passage of the anti-polio campaign.

The arrests were made during an operation launched in the jurisdictions of cantonment and Bilitang police stations on the directives of the district police officer.

Over 30 motorcyclists were also arrested for pillion-riding.

The personnel searched the Muhammadzai, Naway Kallay, Ublan and Ghulam Banda Afghan refugee camp areas and rounded up 80 persons. The police registered FIRs against them.

Weapons, including four Kalashnikovs, two shotguns, 10 pistols, 20 chargers, nine kilogrammes of hashish, and 50 grams of heroin were also seized.

TWO KILLED: Two people, including an Afghan refugee, were killed in the city and Shahpur areas.

Unknown persons shot dead a boy, Khalid Orakzai, in Sangerh area.

An Afghan refugee, Imran, resident of Garhi Rauf Khan, was killed by a rival namely Wajahat after a brawl. Both of them are in furniture business.
