NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Local journalists’ organisations announced holding demonstrations against police failure to arrest killers of journalist Aziz Memon after his final post-mortem report issued on Friday revealed suffocation as cause of death.

The post-mortem report issued by medical officers Tehseen Hussain and Zahid Hussain Shaikh posted at Mehrabpur rural health centre stated that they were of the opinion that Memon’s death occurred due to asphyxia as a result of suffocation which was ante-mortem in nature and was sufficient to cause death of a person in ordinary course of nature.

According to some media reports, senior police officers said while recording a statement before a standing committee of National Assembly that journalist Aziz Memon’s death was natural.

Meanwhile, journalists from various parts of Sindh including members of PFUJ Lala Asad Pathan, Saleem Sehto, Zahid Qaimkhani and others held a sit-in outside Mehrabpur police station, demanding immediate arrest of the journalist’s killers.

Journalists in Nawabshah also held a demonstration on Friday and rejected joint investigation team of Sindh government headed by AIG Waliullah Dal. They demanded a high-profile JIT or judicial commission including senior judges to probe the death and announced holding a demonstration outside AIG office in Hyderabad on March 12.

Aziz Memon, a senior reporter of daily Kawish and KTN news channel died under mysterious circumstances in Mehrabpur on Feb 16. His body was found in a canal in the outskirts of the town. An FIR was registered against four suspects after strong protests by journalists all over the province.
