KARACHI: The 56th National Table Tennis Championship that was scheduled to take place at the Islamia Club’s Majeed Khan Gymnasium from March 20 to 25 has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances, an official of the Karachi Table Tennis Association (KTTA) said on Friday.

“Yes the premier event of the game has been postponed after some teams have expressed their concerns due to fear of coronavirus disease,” chairman KTTA Jawaid Hayat told Dawn.

The former national champion said a decision pertaining to postponement was taken in a meeting that was attended besides him by the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) president Tauqeer Muhajir and former PTTF chief and patron S. M. Sibtain on Friday.

He disclosed that KTTA has been bestowed with the honours to organise the event in collaboration with Sindh Table Tennis Association (STTA).

He said KTTA has already formed various committees for the staging of the 2019 championship in a befitting manner.

According to him, next date of the the event will be announced in due course of time.
