PESHAWAR, Aug 25: Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has expressed the hope that the president and prime minister will fulfil their promises of providing electricity to backward areas of the NWFP by 2007.

Speaking at a gathering of nazims, naib nazims and councillors of Peshawar and Charsadda districts, the minister said the government would give attention to the backward areas of the NWFP.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, he said that the huge public participation in the local body elections had proved their confidence in the system.

He said the elections would strengthen democratic institutions so that they could work smoothly for the welfare of people.

The participants of the gathering pledged to support the Taraqi Pasand Group in forming the district and tehsil governments.
