KARACHI: A young man was killed in an armed attack on his car in the Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) on Tuesday, police said.

They said gunmen on a motorbike intercepted the car near Mehran Town and fired multiple shots at it before riding away.

“There was only one man in the car who was hit by a single bullet in the neck,” said an official at the KIA police station. “He died while being shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. He has been identified as Rizwan, son of Akhlaq, resident of Gulshan-i-Maymar. He was an employee of an advertising company and returning home after dropping a friend at his home in Korangi.”

He said the police had reasons to believe that the incident was a planned murder and not a mugging attempt. The victim was not associated with any political or religious group and the killing seemed to be linked with some personal issues.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Coast Guards claimed to have seized non-custom paid vehicles, Iranian diesel, betel nuts and contraband items at the Naka Khari checkpoint on the RCD Highway near Winder and Pasni in Balochistan.

The estimated value of the seized items in the open market was Rs54 million, it said.
