KARACHI: A teenager died in a hit-and-run incident in Defence Housing Authority on Sunday evening, said rescue sources.

They added that 17-year-old Huzaifa Akhter was riding a motorbike when a vehicle hit him on Khayaban-i-Ittehad in phase-VI. The driver escaped.

The boy sustained critical injuries and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

In another incident, a 40-year-old man died in an accident in New Karachi.

Rais Rehman was riding a motorbike when a dumper truck hit him near 4-K Chowrangi. The truck driver escaped.

The wounded bike-rider was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died.

Shopkeeper burns to death

A 28-year-old shopkeeper was burnt to death when a fire broke out in a shop in Saddar early on Sunday morning, said Preedy police.

They added that Waqas was asleep inside the shop in Frere Market when the blaze erupted there at around 7am. He died of burn wounds on the spot.

Area SHO Sajjad Khan said that apparently the fire broke out due to a short circuit. The body was handed over to the relatives after fulfilling medico-legal formalities at the Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi. The police were investigating the case.

Young man commits suicide

A 32-year-old man committed suicide in Orangi Town on Sunday, said the Pakistan Bazaar police.

They added that Syed Mohammed Noshad ended his life by hanging himself inside his home in Ghaziabad.

Area SHO Iqbal Tunio said that apparently it was an act of suicide.

The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

The officer said that the victim was married, but his wife was not living with him.

He was living along with his mother, who was stated to be an emotionally disturbed person. It is not known as to whether he committed suicide due to some domestic problem or poverty-related issue, said Mr Tunio.

The police are investigating the case.

Boy electrocuted

A 12-year-old boy was electrocuted in Landhi on Sunday.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that Sameer Dadal was trying to catch a pigeon on roof of his home in Yusuf Afghani Goth near Bhains Colony when he got an electric shock and died.

In another incident, a 40-year-old man died when a heavy thing hit him at Old Haji Camp of Lyari on Sunday.

According to rescue services, Nazaruddin was working at a warehouse when a heavy bundle fell on him, killing him on the spot.

The body was taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi to fulfil legal formalities.
