ISLAMABAD: Another case was registered against former cleric of Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz and his guards over violation of a ban on displaying weapons, police said on Wednesday.

Recently the capital administration extended the ban on displaying and exhibiting firearms as show of force in the capital as the practice is likely to threaten public peace and create serious danger to human life and safety of the public.

The case was registered against Maulana Aziz and his nine guards under section 188 of PPC and Arms Ordinance, they added.

Teams of police including Counter Terrorism Force and Anti-Riot Unit stationed around the Lal Masjid, spotted some persons armed with Kalashnikovs inside the mosque, they said.

They told the police that they were guards of Maulana Aziz and the weapons were for his security, the police said, adding they were informed about a ban imposed on display of weapons, by the capital administration, but they kept displaying arms.

They violated the ban, besides carrying illegal arms without licences and permission, they said.

A police officer told Dawn that the case was registered but so far no arrest had been made in this regard.
