SUKKUR: A nephew of arrested Pakistan Peoples Party leader Khursheed Shah, Syed Junaid Qadir Shah, failed to appear before the Accountability Court Sukkur on Tuesday at the hearing of a reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sukkur against Khursheed Shah of accumulation of assets worth over Rs1.23 billion beyond known source of income.

The court had issued arrest warrants of Qadir Shah in the last hearing. According to his counsel, his client was out of the country and would appear before the court on return.

The NAB included in the reference 17 other accused, including two wives of Khursheed, his two sons MPA Farrukh Shah and Zeerak Shah as well as his two nephews, including provincial minister Syed Awais Qadir Shah and Syed Junaid Shah, and others.

Khursheed, who was under medical treatment in the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) Sukkur, was brought through ambulance to the Accountability Court where a large number of PPP workers were present to welcome him.

Those who appeared in court on Tuesday included MPA Farrukh Shah and Khursheed’s son-in-law Awais Qadir Shah and one of his wives.

The court heard arguments from the counsel of Khursheed Shah and other accused as well as of the NAB prosecutor and adjourned the hearing of the reference till March 9.
