RAWALPINDI: The government has given approval to Benazir Bhutto Hospital’s (BBH) Department of Urology to conduct renal transplantation.

The procedure will be done free of cost in the Urology department.

Head of Urology Department Prof Dr Zain el Amir, Dr Zeeshan Ahmed, Dr Saadat Hashmi, Dr Mudassar Murtaza and their team will do the surgery on a regular basis.

BBH’s urology department is the only facility of its kind in the public sector and people from all over Pakistan come here to get treatment for renal problems.

The facility will be provided to patients according to Standard Operating Procedures issued by the government, said Dr Ahmed Sajid while talking to Dawn.

More than 400 patients come for treatment while dialysis is given to 40 patients every day, he added Kidney transplants will begin a month’s time, he said.

Dr Zain thanked the government and Specialised Secretary (health) Dr Yasmin Rashid for serving patients of renal failure.
