RAWALPINDI: Governor Nur Khan of West Pakistan has resigned. His resignation has been accepted and the President has appointed Lt-Gen Atiqur Rahman as the new Governor from Feb 1 [today], according to a Press note issued by the cabinet division here.

The following is the text of the Press note: “The President has accepted the resignation of Air Marshal Nur Khan, H.J., H.Q.A., of S.PK., the Governor of West Pakistan and has been pleased to appoint Lt-Gen Atiqur Rahman, S.PK., M.C., as the Governor of West Pakistan with effect from Feb 1, 1970.

Lt-Gen Atiqur Rahman had been appointed Martial Law Administrator Zone “A” on the promulgation of Martial Law in the country on March 12, 1969. He served in this capacity till August 29 last year, when he handed over charge to Lt-Gen Tikka Khan. Since then he had been serving as Corps Commander.

Before taking over as the Provincial Governor, Air Marshal Nur Khan was Commander-in-Chief of Pakistan Air Force and also in that capacity Deputy Chief Martial Law Administrator.
