ISLAMABAD: The capital administration on Friday banned issuance of licences of weapons of 222, 223 and 44 non-prohibited bore, sources told Dawn.

Officers of the administration said the ban was imposed as licences of these non-prohibited bore weapons issued by the administration were being misused by the holders.

A notification issued by district magistrate said: “It has been reported that licences of 223, 222, 44 non-prohibited bore issued by this office are being misused by the licence holders as they said weapons are being altered/converted into kalashnikov/automatic/prohibited bore weapons.”

Hence, ban is hereby imposed on issuance of these weapons licence till further order, it added.

Officers of the administration told Dawn that licences of these weapons were issue after getting verification from departments concerned, including police’s Special Branch.
