ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has asked the Central Selection Board (CSB) to consider the case of a deputy inspector general (DIG) of police for promotion in BS-21 in its upcoming meeting.

DIG Dr Azim Khan of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) is currently working as joint secretary in the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs.

His promotion has been deferred twice in the two successive CSB meeting held last year.

Raja Inam Ameen Minhas, counsel for DIG Khan, told the court that the CSB had deferred the promotion of his client as according the board his Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) were incomplete.

However, when he provided all the ACRs to the CSB, his promotion was deferred again citing some other reasons.

According to Minhas, Khan’s name has not been included in the panel of the PSP’s officers being considered by the CSB in its upcoming meeting scheduled on Jan 27.

Khan has been told that since he did not attain the minimum threshold of the marks he was supposed to secure throughout service, he cannot be considered for further promotion.

Advocate Minhas argued before the court that DIG Khan was eligible for the next grade promotion. However, due to bureaucratic hurdles, his case had been deferred twice.

He requested the court to direct the CSB to consider Khan for promotion in BS-21 in the upcoming meeting.

IHC Justice Aamer Farooq after hearing the arguments directed the Establishment Division to refer the case of Khan to the CSB.
