JSMU hosts All Karachi chess, scrabble 2020 event

KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University organized a chess and scrabble event for students from all over Karachi. The three day event titled ‘GRID’, organized by JSMU’s Student Council, reached its closing on 23rd January 2020 after seeing some tough matches among the young students.

The Chess competition was held in three categories in which Zainab Arshad of SMB Fatima Jinnah School won the under 12 years category, Momin Fayaz of Karachi Grammar School topped the 12-16 years category and the above 16 years category was won by Alisha Hussani of ICAP. The second position in Under 12-year category was won by BVS School’s Areeb Rehman and third by Hania Ismail of SMB Fatima Jinnah School. In Under-16s, BVS’s Naseeb and Shamir won second and third positions while Ashar Ahmed won the prize for being the fastest. In Above-16 category, second position went to The Lyceum’s Mohammad Abdul Salam and Maleeha from SMBFJ School stood third.

In the Scrabble tournament, BVS Parsi High School and Mama Parsi School maintained supremacy while Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Bahria University, and Jinnah Sindh Medical University also remained prominent. The first and second position of the first category was won by Rishit Kumar and Muhammad Bilal Asher from BVS while Syeda Atiqa Fatima of Mama Parsi stood third. In the second category, Ali Wasif from BVS secured the first position while second and third position went to Syeda Hawra Fatima and Amna Kushnood of Mama Parsi School. In the third category, first position was secured by Shahzaib Khatri from MAJU while Abbas Baig from Bahria University and Zoha Mohsin from JSMU clinched second and third positions respectively.

The Vice Chancellor JSMU Professor S.M.Tariq Rafi presented the shields and certificates to the winners with guests Mohammad Wasif Nisar from Sindh Chess Association, Fahim Naqvi from Pakistan Scrabble Association, Dr Irtiza Bhatti, and Dr Ali Nizami from SMB Fatima Jinnah School. Chairperson JSMU Student Council Professor Ghazala Usman thanked the participants at the end.
