Speakers of BD, Maldives arrive

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19: Speaker of the People’s Majlis of Maldives Ahmed Zahir and Deputy Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament Muhammad Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui arrived here on Friday to participate in the CPA Asia Region National and Provincial Legislatures’ conference.

Senator Mrs Tahira Latif received the guests at the airport.

Deputy Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament Muhammad Akhtar Hamid, while talking to Mrs Tahira Latif, lauded President Pervez Musharraf for his farsighted policies and appreciated the role played by Pakistan in the war against terrorism.

Senator Mrs Tahira Latif, Chairperson Senate Standing Committee on Women Development, said Islam is a religion of peace and teaches harmony.

She said President Musharraf’s vibrant policies have put the country on the right track. She was of the view that a conference of the Muslim countries should be arranged to chalk out a unified policy with regard to the struggle against terrorism.—APP
