ISLAMABAD, Aug 18: Leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Maulana Abbas Ansari said on Thursday that a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Kashmiri leaders would take place in September.

“Invitation from India to the APHC leadership for dialogue is expected in the first week of September,” he told a Pakistani TV channel.

He expressed hope that talks with Indian leadership would be meaningful and would pave way for resolution of the Kashmir issue. Referring to a recent visit of the APHC leadership to Pakistan, Maulana Ansari said Pakistan accorded warm welcome to the Hurriyat delegation.

He appreciated President General Pervez Musharraf for effectively highlighting the issue of Kashmir at international fora. He paid rich tributes to the Pakistani leadership who wanted to resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of Kashmiri people.

He reiterated that no durable peace in the region could be achieved without settling the core issue of Kashmir.—APP
