PESHAWAR: The Mathra police here on Tuesday arrested two minor boys for allegedly murdering their 10-year-old friend after an altercation, an official said.

A police spokesperson said the incident took place on Monday night in Momin Abad area, falling in the limits of Mathra police station, where a boy, 10, identified as Fawad was stabbed with a sharp object, which caused his death.

The official said the police had taken two minors aged 12 and 11 years old, respectively, into custody after initial investigations.

He said during interrogation the minors confessed to hitting Fawad with a glass piece after a brawl.

The official said the police had recovered the piece of glass used to murder the boy.

Separately, five members of a family were injured in a blast caused due to gas leakage in the Inqilab Road area of the city on Tuesday. The blast occurred in a room of the house where the inmates were asleep.

Rescue 1122 said this was the third gas blast in the city within 24 hours, injuring 16 people in total.
