LAHORE: The fresh westerly system began to give rain in different parts of the country on Sunday and the Met office said it was yet to show its power in the next two days.

Fog also prevailed at isolated places over plain areas of Punjab.

The Met department reported rain/thunderstorm in Quetta, Dalbandin, Nokkundi, Khuzdar, Kalat, Barkhan, Zhob, Sibbi, Pattan, Malamjabba, Peshawar, Bannu, Parachinar, Dera Ismail Khan, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Bhakkar, Joharabad, Sahiwal, Okara, Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, D G Khan, Kot Addu, Layyah, Larkana, Mohenjodaro and Kashmir.

It remained dry and cold in remaining parts of the country while very cold in the upper areas. It drizzled in Lahore in the evening, and there were chances of rain during the night. A cloud cover throughout the day lowered the maximum temperature to 15 degrees C from Saturday’s 18 degrees C. The minimum on Saturday night was 5 degrees C

Kalat received 17mm of rain, Quetta (Samungli 11, City 10), Zhob 11, Barkhan 2, Layyah 9, Bhakkar 7, Jhang 4, Nurpurthal, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal, Kot Addu 2, Multan, Bahawalnagar, D G Khan, Faisalabad, Joharabad, Okara 1, Parachinar 8, Malamjabba, Dera Ismail Khan 5, Bannu 4, Larkana 2.

Kalam was the coldest place in the country with -15 degrees C minimum temperature. It was followed by Skardu -13, Astore -9, Gupis, Bagrot -8, Malamjabba -7, Parachinar -6 and Rawalakot -5°C.

The Met department forecast widespread rain with snowfall over the hills in Balochistan, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, south/central Punjab, at scattered places in upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan while at isolated places in upper Sindh in the next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall and snowfall are also expected in northern Balochistan during the period.
