KOHAT: Vice-Chancellor of the Kohat University of Science and Technology (Kust) Dr Jameel Ahmed has said the varsity has introduced a student welfare fund to financially help the poor students get higher education.

He stated this while addressing the 11th convocation here on Tuesday. He said the varsity had also indigenously prepared Kust campus-management solution (KCMS) for online, integrated and paperless systems in academics, and to make the recruitment process transparent and effective. He said the system had been extended to the affiliated colleges also.

Vice-Chancellor of the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, Dr Khurshid Ali Khan attended the convocation as the guest of honour.

Both the VCs distributed degrees among 470 graduates and gold medals among 72.

Mr Ahmed said the strength of the university had risen to 6,000 students, which was expected to rise further to 10,000 students by 2025.

He added the alumni association was contributing to the student fund.

He advised the graduates to be hard working, tolerant towards others, and utilise and trust their own abilities to the full to be successful in the practical life.

He said the university expected them to play role of a leader.

He thanked the guest of honor, parents and guardians on behalf of the senate, syndicate, faculty, staff, and students of the varsity.

POOR GET RATION, WARM CLOTHES: DIG Kohat division Tayyab Hafeez Cheema on Tuesday distributed free ration and warm clothes among the poor people staying at the newly-established shelter home, and also announced that the police would provide them with lunch as well.

The DIG and Kohat district police officer Mansoor Aman also gave away gifts to the poor children at a ceremony.

Talking to reporters, Mr Cheema said the patrolling police were shifting the people sleeping at footpaths to the shelter home, and urged the people to help the police in the cause.

He directed all the DPOs and DSPs to shift the homeless people to the shelter home.
