ISLAMABAD, Aug 16: A large number of writers and journalists have received civilian awards this year in recognition of their services rendered in the fields of letters and journalism.

Those who have received the awards in the category of literature are: the late Ashfaq Ahmed, Punjab, (Urdu - Punjabi); the late Mirza Ibn-e-Hanif, Punjab, (writer - scholar); Prof Fateh Mohammad Malik, Punjab, (public service); Javed Shaheen, Punjab, (Urdu); Prof Aftab Iqbal Shamim, Punjab, (Urdu poetry); Shafqat Tanveer Mirza, Punjab, (Punjabi literature); Asghar Nadeem Sayed, Punjab, (TV drama); Dr Asif Farrukhi, Sindh; Prof Sahar Ansari, Sindh, (Urdu); the late Ali Ahmed K Brohi, Sindh, (Sindhi — English); Prof Mohammad Afaq Siddqui, Sindh, (Sindhi-Urdu); Khalida Hussain, Islamabad, (Urdu); Prof Nadir Qambrani, Balochistan, (Brahvi-Balochi); Abdur Rahman Barahui, Balochistan, (Brahvi language); Ayaz Daud Zai, NWFP, (Pushto); Mohammad Ghazi Siyal, NWFP, (Pushto); Prof Dr Ayub Sabir, NWFP (Iqbal studies); Sharif Farooq, NWFP, (journalism).

Those who have received awards in the category of poetry are: Zia Jalundhry, art (poetry); Zehra Nigah, Sindh, (Urdu poetry).

Those who have received awards in the category of journalism are: Syed Fasih Iqbal, Balochistan, public service (journalism — social service); and Prof Khwaja Masud, Islamabad, education journalism. Jalaluddin Ahmed from Sindh has been given an award in the category of art (writer-researcher).
