ISLAMABAD, Aug 13: The People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) MNAs have submitted an adjournment motion to the National Assembly Secretariat to discuss the issue of frequent power breakdowns in Karachi, which were causing great inconvenience to the residents.

According to ARD parliamentary secretary Izhar Amrohvi, the motion signed by eight MNAs has been submitted under the Rule 92 of the Rules and Procedure for Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 1992 on the basis of August 9 incident in which half of Karachi plunged into darkness.

The motion states “more than half of Karachi city plunged into darkness when the transmission system of the Karachi Electric Supply Company snapped in the early hours of August 9. The massive breakdown continued till afternoon.

The city’s water supply and sewerage system was also severely affected and the industries reported huge losses.”

The PPP members were of the view that due to the importance of the matter, it should be discussed immediately on the floor of the house, adjourning normal proceedings.

The motion has been signed by Sherry Rehman, Naheed Khan, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Fauzia Wahab, Dr Azra Fazal, Sher Mohammad Baloch, Syed Naveed Qamar and Syed Khurshid Shah.
