PESHAWAR: Awami National Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan has welcomed release of Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences after he was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court.

In a statement issued here on Thursday the ANP leader said that the court’s decision might become a ray of hope in this prevailing suffocating environment.

He said that his party welcomed release of the ailing former president, adding that Asif Zardari and other politicians had rendered sacrifices for the country.

He said political leaders could not be blackmailed by putting them in jail.

He said political opponents were being victimised in the name of accountability. He also prayed for the early recovery of the PPP leader.
